Croissants and Danish
A really good croissant is a thing of beauty. It makes an amazing breakfast, it is comforting and full of flavour. Hand made croissants are a labour of love, it has personality and character. Chef Kainaz is proud of the croissants she serves and often treats herself to one for breakfast.
We offer a range of viennoiserie including croissant, almond croissant (mum’s favourite!), pain au chocolat, pain aux raisin, lemon danish, parsley & cream cheese danish and apple & blueberry danish.
We have a selection of sandwiches and rolls ready to pick up. If time permits, we offer a selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian sandwiches which are made to order. We make puffs and quiche. Our legendary Chip Butty has a cult following.
The Chip Butty (pictured above) is special and intriguing in equal measure. It started out as a novelty and temporary addition to our menu, it was meant to add a little fun to our offering. The meteoric rise of the Chip Butty has baffled us, it has become an iconic and signature sandwich at Theobroma and we now make many versions of it including Bacon Butty, Egg Butty and Chicken Butty.
I first had a Chip Butty at a pub in Oxford, United Kingdom, says Chef Kainaz. As I remember, it was cold salted chips between uninspiring white bread. I was entirely underwhelmed and almost forgot about it. Several months later, I was pottering around in our Colaba outlet kitchen and saw hot chips coming out of the fryer. I was starving at the time and decided to make myself a Chip Butty. I used a fresh butter roll, hot chips and generously applied garlic mayonnaise. The Theobroma Chip Butty was born, it has been on our menu ever since. It has become Theobroma’s signature sandwich and has many loyal fans.
